Instructions: Mix all dry ingredients; add shortening and 1/2 cup of the milk. Beat for 2 minutes; add remaining 1/2 cup of milk and the egg whites. Beat 2 minutes longer. Turn into two 8" layer pans or a small loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Cool and frost with your favorite frosting.
