Instructions: Cream butter and sugar. Mix flour, soda and spices in a separate bowl. Add dry ingredients to creamed ingredients alternately with molasses and water, dough will be soft.
Chill several hours or overnight, and form into 4 equal logs, about 9 inches long. Wrap each roll well in plastic wrap and freeze. To bake, slice into quarter-inch slices and bake on sprayed cookie sheets at 350 for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool slightly on the baking sheets, then on a rack. This dough keeps well, just be sure to wrap it very well to avoid that freezer taste. I wrap them well in plastic wrap, then put all 4 logs in a large zipper freezer bag. They make the house smell so good, and are wonderful for unexpected drop-ins (they will think you are so amazing for serving fresh baked cookies!!). Email this Recipe:
