Instructions: Crush 4 cinnamon sticks and 2 tablespoon cloves. Mix with 1 cup uncooked rice. Place in a cloth bag, about 7x7 inches. Sew up the open end. Use as a hot pad - the scent will come out when a hot dish is placed on the mat. You can substitue herbs (herbal tea works well) for the spices. If you want to be more fancy, carefully sew seems across the pad, so you end up with a criss-cross or chessboard pattern. This will also make the pad less floppy and easier to use.
Notes: You can also cut back on the spices and use these as heating pads. Heat them up in the microwave and put them in your bed in the winter, or warm up a childs bed or babys crib before putting them to bed. (WARNING: Always remove the pad before laying the child down and make sure the bed is not too hot - they do got hot enough to burn!) Email this Recipe:
