250 gm self-raising flour
1 x level teaspoon each of ground cloves, cinnamon
and ginger
pinch salt
125 gm brown sugar
75 gm treacle or molasses
Instructions:
Instructions: Grease and line a 20 cm x 7,5 cm loaf tin with grease proof paper.

Sift flour, spices and salt into a large mixing bowl. Put sugar, treacle and milk into a sauce pan and heat gently, stirring constantly. Beat into flour mixture to make a thick batter. Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 1 hour at 150C. Allow to cool in the tin until firm, turn out on to a cooling rack and leave until cold. Pack in aluminium foil and allow to mature for 2 days before eating. Total kilojoule count 6980 kj (1665 cal)
