Ingredients:
Amount Ingredient
220 gm split gram lentils (channa dal) soaked for 15 minutes
4 tbl sunflower oil
4 x cloves
16 x black peppercoms
6 x cardamom
2 x bay leaves
2 tsp panch phoron
2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp mango powder
1 tsp sugar
Instructions:
Instructions: Bring the lentils to the boil in 750ml water and simmer until soft but whole.

Reserve.

Have all the other ingredients to hand.

Heat the oil in a separate pan and drop in all the ingredients except the salt and sugar one after the other.

Fry for a minute until the spices crackle.

Pour the whole lot over the cooked dal add the salt and sugar and blend well.

Serve hot with rotis or rice and a meat curry.
