Instructions: Put 4 quarts strawberries into a bowl; add 2 quarts vinegar. Cover bowl and set in a cool place for 2 days.
Strain through cheesecloth. Put 4 quarts fresh strawberries in the bowl and pour over them the vinegar strained from the first lot. Cover and set in a cool place for 2 days, then strain the vinegar as before. Put the strained juice in a large kettle and add 3 quarts of sugar, heat the mixture slowly; when it boils, skim it carefully. Continue boiling for 20 minutes, then pour into jars and seal. 2 tablespoons in a glass of cold water makes a refreshing drink. Note: Other fruit may be used instead of strawberries.
