Ingredients:

300 gm split gram lentils (channa dal)
750 ml water
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp sugar
3 tbl sunflower oil
2 tbl panch phoron
4 x dried red chillies deseeded ard crumbled
2 x bay leaves
1 tsp mango powder
2 tsp raisins
Instructions:
Instructions: Simmer the lentils in the water until soft and mushy.

Add the turmeric salt and sugar.

Blend well.

Heat the oil in a small pan and add the panch phoron.

When it crackles add the red chillies bay leaves mango powder and raisins.

Reduce the heat.

Fry for a minute and pour the oil and the spices over the lentils.

Add water if required to adjust the consistency which should be that of a thick soup.

Bring to the boil once and serve hot.
