Ingredients:
Amount Ingredient
1 x (53-0z.) can Van Camps Pork and Beans
3 x (14.5 oz. ea.) cans Hunts Diced Tomatoes with Sweet
Onions
2 x (11-oz.) cans Green Giant White Shoepeg Corn, with
juice
1 lb ground turkey (or lean beef or buffalo),
Instructions:
Instructions: This recipe calls for a 5-quart crockpot or slow cooker.

Layer first three ingredients in crockpot. Break up ground turkey into bite-size pieces and lay on top.

The meat could be sauteed, but I put it in raw.

Cook on low heat for 10 hours. If you want, stir a couple times after 5 hours.

Eat in bowl like chili or use as topping on mashed potatoes or rice.

Note: I sometimes put canned peas (drained) in about 1/2 hour before serving. If using raw peas, put in about 2 hours before serving.

History:
This recipe was given to me by my mother, Edith Bromeland. Its from my childhood. It was originally a Girl Scout recipe. They threw anything they had handy into an iron pot hanging over a campfire and just let it cook away.

Dont be afraid to experiment. This is my favorite version. But you can put lima beans in it, yellow corn, green beans, etc.; I tried mixed veggies once, didnt care for it much; perhaps bacon ... whatever you feel like putting in (or have on hand). My mother says this is the charm of Spotted Dog. Experiment with it until you find the one or two versions you really like. But make sure you write it down so you can pass YOUR Spotted Dog down the line within your family and friends.
