Instructions: Scald milk, stir in sugar, salt, shortening, honey and molasses. Cool to lukewarm. Set aside.
Measure into another bowl the warm water, sprinkle with yeast and stir until dissolved. Add to lukewarm milk mixture. Add 2 cups whole-wheat flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough additional flour to make a firm ball. Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, 8-10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in bulk approximately 1 hour. Punch down and turn out onto lightly floured surface. Shape into rolls or loaves. Cover and let rise until center is slightly higher than center of pan, approximately 1 hour. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes for loaves, 15-20 minutes for rolls. Makes 2 loaves or 2 1/2 dozen rolls. Email this Recipe:
